1.1 Adabas & Natural for z/OS

Natural for z/OS 9.2.3 includes new features that improve operations and developer productivity.

Natural ISPF and Natural for Db2® are now compliant with our license model. You will need the product licenses to install the latest version of these products.

You asked, we delivered!

  • To simplify ISN access, a new option was added allowing you to set range of ISN with READ ISN FROM TO.

  • New statement PARSE JSON allows you to parse your JSON payload directly in your Natural application.

We enhanced debugging capabilities in the INPUT/CALLNAT statements. When any incompatibility error occurs, the field name will be visible in the error message.

SMF records can now be processed on zIIP using a new Natural user exit. This will eliminate switches between GP and zIIP.

Adabas for z/OS 8.6.1 and the Adabas for z/OS family of products include a significant number of incremental improvements in response to customers’ Aha! ideas. The interfaces also fully support Adabas Manager.

Progress is being made to provide Adabas for z/OS full 64-Bit with its buffer pool. This is reflected in changes of internal data structures. However, there is still more work to be done to complete this major change.

Adabas Manager added new administration features, enhanced queues and files for Adabas for z/OS, and now supports Delta Save, Cluster Services, Parallel Services and Adabas Event Replicator. In the security space, Adabas Passphrase Login is also supported.

Adabas & Natural products running z/OS are now available on CICS TS version 6.2 (z/OS). For additional information, follow this link.

1.2 Adabas & Natural for Linux and Cloud

Natural for Linux 9.3.2 and its product family, in alignment with Natural for z/OS, provides new features and new statements as shown in the table below.

In this release, performance on distributed architectures has been enhanced. The READ/WRITE to the Buffer Pool performs faster than ever. This new capability is only available in the NAT package.

Natural Availability Server, released last year, ensures that your applications can continue to operate in case of serious incidents or disasters and are able to recover to an operational state within a reasonably short period of time. Combined with Adabas Cluster for Linux, your Adabas & Natural systems can realize the highest levels of availability provided by your underlying infrastructure.

Token based authentication is now supported for Natural applications.

OpenID Connect (OIDC) is an advanced method for verifying a user’s identity, commonly used to secure applications and services. Secure access to Natural applications ensures only authorized personnel can access sensitive data. Available clients are Natural for Ajax and Natural Availability Server.

The Adabas on Linux & Cloud ecosystem continues to focus on security and high availability.

Adabas for Linux ships with usability enhancements for all utilities running in interactive mode:

  • HELP provides a link to the respective documentation set
  • All commands auto complete while typing
  • The history of commands from the previous session is available
  • The installation procedure of the REST Administration Server is improved

RBAC (Role Based Access Control) for security initialization is significantly simplified. The load format changed, so it can be loaded with any block size (BLKSIZ). During initialization, users can be individually defined per database. Logging, as well as import and export of definitions, is improved.

Adabas Encryption for Linux supports encryption of all major containers and files, like PLOG, Backup, WORK, SORT and TEMP. Moreover, Microsoft Azure Vault and Google Cloud Platform are supported as Key Management Systems. Mass update utilities like unload / load (ADAULD / ADAMUP) and import / export (ADAORD) are supported with encryption. Also, Adabas Cluster internal data structures are now encrypted.

Adabas Cluster for Linux continues its high availability journey: Restart of cluster nodes is improved, and import / export (ADAORD) are supported. PRIMARY_ONLY allows backup of the primary cluster node in particular, and individually.
2 new cluster actions (PRIMARY_NODE_SWITCH, LOST_QUORUM) allow immediate alerting in unusual cluster conditions.

Adabas Manager aligns its installation handling with Adabas. Monitoring of Adabas on Linux & Cloud is significantly enhanced. In addition, SORT and TEMP files can also be managed.

Entire Net-Work rolls up all fixes and is synchronized with the latest ACL kit.
