Natural One Windows 8

I put a copy of Natural One on a clean Windows 8 system

Everything worked great until I got to the MySQL example.
I installed MySQL 5.6.17 and it forces you to put a password in when you configure it.
The install doc from NaturalONE says, no password and there was no option in MySQL version for this.

I proceeded but could not get a connection to mysqldb with user demo.

So
is it my version of MySQL
is it the pasword requirement for root

ps

i install the odbc connector
i did set up mysqldb, server/port, etc.
MySQL admin can see it and do things
