Date format - date popup

Is there a way to specify the way a date format when using the date type field. When I select a date from the date-up the format of the date is for example 06.11.2008

Is there a way to set the default date format for a site like you do with DTFORMAT in Natural? For example at my site we use MM/DD/YYYY

In NJX 121 the date in a layout page is automatically shown according to the setting of the Natural DTFORM parameter.
