X-Plorer look & feel error

Hi, I 've been working with X-Plorer for quite some time without problem, until a couple of days ago when the windows look & feel has disappeared! Button borders, sliders, tree nodes etc. are not displayed at all! Clicking on Tools → Customize → Details I get this (also attached, I hope):

 java.lang.NullPointerException at javax.swing.border.EmptyBorder <init()> (Unknown Source) at com.sun.java.swing.plaf.windows.WindowsTableHeaderUI$XPDefaultRenderer.getTableCellRendererComponent (Unknown Source)

etc. I didn’t touch, installed/uninstalled anything regarding Java. I use jdk 1.4.2_08 since months. Any help would be appreciated. Best regards, John.
