By means to broker you can refer to the messaging agent which helps to achieve asynchronous behavior or decouple the process among multiple (or single) IS. You can install the number of broker instances on a broker server but for a single broker server there will be only one monitor irrespective of how many number of broker instances are running on a broker server.
