Changing field and record reference

Hi,
Is there a quick and easy way of changing field references in a Dictionary ?
Also is there a quick and easy way of changing field and record references in a schema ?

I want to change a whole bunch of field/record references, and right now the only way that I can think of is almost as good as rebuilding the schema and the dictionary.

Does anybody have some better ideas.

I beleive for this kind of thing rebuilding the schema and the dictionary is the only way and there is no quick way for changing references/fields.
