Question on webmethods 8.2.2 upgrade

Hi,

We are working on webMethods upgrade form 7.1.3 to 8.2.2 using side by side approach.
As part of this approach we see that if we need to migrate business process data , we need to use same broker storage in 8.2.2 broker sevrer as used by 7.1.3 broker server.
This makes impact on existing 7.1.3 environment.

  1. As the storage will be removed 7.1.3 broker server can not be up and hence the environment.
This puts us in condition that pre production 7.1.3 environment will not be available after their 8.2.2 upgrade and for some time our production will be on 7.1.3 and others on 8.2.2.
  2. In case we have to roll back from 8.2.2 to 7.1.3 , even if all other 7.1.3 components including DB are intact with side by side approach we can not immidiately bring it up as the 7.1.3 broker storage will be used by 8.2.2 broker server.

We want to know from your experience of upgrade , is there any wany to avoid this impact and perform Business process migration with out removing 7.1.3 Broker server storage and assigning it to 8.2.2 broker server.

From one SI with SAG we see that we can copy paste the storage directory in 8.2.2 installation and create a broker server with it as a storage. Please let us know if this will serve the purpose.

Thanks in Advance,

Did you use the migration utility for the upgrade for data/runtime moving?

Hi Ashish,
Unlike other components of webMethods, Broker Server is the easiest component to upgrade. It will not affect any other components that are current running once you upgrade. It is just that, the new features broker server 8.2.2 cannot be used. It has backward compatibility. You could upgrade Broker Server to 8.2.2 first in your current environment, and then followed by other components. In this way, you have broker store of same version in all the environments.
