Packets of Idocs

The Gear implementation hand book for SAP adapter mentions of using packets of IDocs, but the SAP adapter user guide is silent about it. My simple question is:

What are the settings required in SAP and/or SAP Adapter and programming requirements in the IS Services to achieve this?
