In some cases, additional functionality beyond that provided by the webMethods API Gateway is needed to properly handle processing requirements. This is where Custom Extensions come in. Custom Extensions make HTTP calls to external service endpoints and can be used in Identify & Access, Request Processing, Routing, Response Processing, and Error Handling policies. Custom Extension responses can then be used in downstream policies API policies.
