What is the developer key?

Hi everyone,

I see in my profile details the filed developer key. I can regenerate it etc, but what is the utility of that field ?
Could it be use as an API Key or is it an id correlation between actions and the user who did the action ?

The Developer Key is used to login to the tenant when developing either custom connectors or custom connector actions using the Connector Builder (Node.js CLI).
