Query measurement types a device produces

Hi,

i want to know which types of measurement a device creates. How can i do this? By querying a device there is nothing to find. I could query the measurements of the device itself and check with type they are, but when there is on type which provides data every second and the other one only once a day, i would have to query thousands of data point to find out which type the second one is… there must be a better way of doing this!
If someone does know how to do this, pls let me know.
