No localhost connection w Win2k SP3

After loading Windows 2000 SP3 on my PC I can no longer connect to localhost using webMethods Ver. 4.1.1. The error message, where P3004979 is the localhost name, is:

The connection error was:

Unable to open connection to host ‘P3004979’. Error ‘java.net.ConnectException: Connection
refused: no further information’ was reported by the socket call.

Trying to reconnect again…

Comm Failure (102-2050): Unable to open connection to host ‘P3004979’. Error
‘java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: no further information’ was reported by the
socket call. (BrokerServerClient-7199)

Does anyone have any ideas on how to overcome this?

Check that the broker started successfully. Connection refused usually indicates something is there but not quite working.

The broker monitor service is started but the broker service is stuck in ‘starting’ mode.

I got that same behavior trying to run on XP. Wonder if there is a patch…

We recently discovered that a certain security-related upgrade to Windows 2000 / XP when applied prevents the Broker from operating normally. This is part of W2K SP3 and also certain hotfixes. When applied, the Broker starts using 100% of the CPU. This applies to 3.x and 4.x, but not 5.x versions of the Broker.

SPs will soon be made available for 4.1 and 4.1.1 which address this issue; they will be accessible from webMethods Advantage.
